Dr. Bart Pijls mainly focuses on the development of non-invasive induction heating to kill bacteria in a biofilm on implants. He has developed his own line of research in this field in close collaboration with the Department of Medical Microbiology. As a result, his team was the first to publish on non-contact electromagnetic induction heating for eradicating bacteria and yeasts on biomaterials. For his research, Dr. Bart Pijls received the ZonMw Off-Road grant and in 2019 the VENI grant to further develop this line of research.
